/WAVE TECHNOLOGY
What is wave energy and how is it generated?
One of the possible means provided by the sea for generating electricity is to make use of the force produced by waves. The technology that would allow this renewable energy to be generated is still, however, in the development phase. Thus, advancing the work in this field is essential.
Various systems can be used to harness the energy produced by wave force, in particular:
Oscillating water column with breakwater
A construction harnessing the force generated by wave is built on the coast. The plant comprises a front wall with an opening through which water enters, an air chamber and a turbine. This structure allows waves to enter the chamber and cause an air flow, which drives the turbine. The moving turbine drives an electricity generator. The water then exits the chamber and this refills with air to complete the process.
Buoys
This system employs buoys to use the vertical oscillation of waves, by means of mechanical systems or pressure differences in a hydraulic circuit, to drive a generator and thus produce electricity
